It is inevitable that with time and gravity our physical appearance changes, ageing is unavoidable. However there are things we can do and products we can use that ensure we age gracefully and have our best possible skin. Mature skin is usually drier and needs far more hydration than younger skin. It can lack in volume and will eventually develop sunspots and deeper wrinkles (yep we’re all going to get them). Mature skin needs products that are rich in active ingredients and robust in anti-wrinkle properties, but it’s very important that these products won’t also dry the skin out, it’s all about the happy medium!
Cleansing – we recommend mature skin to use a mild cleanser that won’t irritate already sensitive skin and one that isn’t so harsh that it will strip the skin of its’ natural oils. Remember, mature skin is drier and needs that extra hydration and care with gentle products. Go the extra mile and use warm water instead of hot water, and when drying your face just pat down with a washer instead of rubbing vigorously (this can damage the skin).
Exfoliation – this is a touchy one but doable, as you age the skin gets thinner and far more delicate, you need to treat it accordingly. You can exfoliate but don’t overdo it, we’d recommend a chemical exfoliant that doesn’t involve any physical scrubbing that could aggrevate the skin. Our Resurfacing Serum would be perfect with it’s exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids, and the best part is that you leave it on, no rinsing needed! Stick to doing this twice a week maximum for clear and bright skin with a bit of extra ‘plump’.
Side note – at any age or stage in your skincare journey you should be using a facial massage tool, a perfect example is the Gua Sha therapy. This technique is an ancient Chinese healing method that entails sweeping the Gua Sha across the face in certain patterns to stimulate collagen, sculpt the face, increase blood flow and encourage circulation of soft tissue.
Moisturiser & Serum – in our 30’s and 40’s the Hyaluronic levels in our skin begin to decrease which is one of the causes dehydration and the creation of fine lines and wrinkles. A product that has high levels of Hyaluronic Acid in it is perfect for moisture retention as HA holds up to 1000 times it’s weight in water. Perfect for plumping and hydrating. We’d recommend using a serum with strong Hyaluronic Acid properties followed by a rich moisturiser to seal and boost the serum underneath. Repeat after us, “more moisture”.
Eye Cream – this is an absolute non-negotiable and no brainer! This area is sensitive and delicate no matter what your age. Choose an eye cream that is high in Retinal, Anti-oxidants, and Peptides. Our Rejuvenating Eye Cream has the added benefit of Liquid Crystals which transform into an emollient protective barrier on the skin and prevent further damage from environmental factors. It’s also extremely hydrating and gives that plump bright complexion under the eye area. Get bright eyed baby!
