HER SKIN: JAYE GREEN

HER SKIN: JAYE GREEN

“Welcome to Her Skin – Jaye Green is the newest member of the Cosmology family and we can’t get enough her luminous complexion. Jaye hasn’t always had this dewy glow and like the rest of us has battled with her skin and it’s moods. Lifestyle changes and coming off the contraceptive pill and hormonal imbalances contributed to some skin struggles throughout her 20’s. Jaye’s beliefs are that good skin comes from diet and quality skincare used consistently.  She is also a ‘double cleanser’, we love you girl! Read Jaye’s journey below.”

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE OF HEALTHY SKIN BEGIN?

I think I first started to really invest time and effort into my skin maybe when I was about 20 years old. I’d previously been on the contraceptive pill which (not that I knew at the time) had been keeping my skin looking fairly clear and problem free. After I stopped taking the pill, which I’d decided to do as I no longer wanted to unnaturally intervene with my hormones, my visible skin problems really began and so I think this is around the time I properly began my skincare ‘journey.’

HOW HAS YOUR SKIN JOURNEY BEEN SINCE THEN?

It’s definitely been very up and down. Some phases it’s been great and others not so good. Had I been properly educated and known about the side effects of the contraceptive pill I don’t think I would have ever taken it to begin with – that’s a whole separate issue though. Once I did stop though, I went through a really long phase of having issues with my menstrual cycle and found out I had PCOS. That can also affect your skin so I was definitely feeling desperate to get my hormones balanced and help my skin from within. I spent time getting acupuncture and taking Chinese herbs which definitely helped with my cycle and made my skin a little less aggravated however I definitely still struggled with quite congested, oily skin.

WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN STRUGGLES WITH YOUR SKIN?

As I mentioned above, oily and congested skin have been my main skin issues. Never full on acne but definitely break outs often and just overall congested pores. I’ve managed to get this under control within the past few years though but I definitely don’t have perfect skin now. I also avoid certain foods as much as I can because I find they really break me out. Dairy, refined sugar and deep fried, oily foods.

BIGGEST BELIEFS WITH SKINCARE?

I really belief that healthy skin comes from within, however a good skincare routine can be so beneficial since we can’t always ensure every little thing within out body is 100% clean and pure. From the food we eat, the air we breathe in and the make up we wear… it all has an impact on our skin. So, I think the biggest thing is to really trial products for a consistent period of time (stick it out through the purging phase that generally happen with break out prone skin) and once you find products that work for you, be CONSISTENT! Your skincare routine is like your gym workouts, you have to stay consistent and regular to really see the results long term.

WHAT’S A TYPICAL SKIN ROUTINE LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Currently my daily skincare routine includes an A.M. cleanse, serum, and moisturiser (SPF if I’m going outdoors that day). Then a P.M. double cleanse, serum, moisturiser, rosehip oil, and eye cream. Throughout the week I exfoliate about twice as well. I also love clay masks which are great for congested skin, specifically charcoal or bentonite clay ones. And when I’m feeling like really treating my skin I’ll use my rose quarts gua sha and face roller with a favourite oil, or for a more intensive treatment I’ll occasionally derma roll as well. I definitely don’t do all those things all the time but I really like to invest time into making my skin look and feel great so when I have a moment it’s nice to add in some extra steps.

FAVOURITE PRODUCTS IN THE COSMOLOGY RANGE?

Right now I’m really loving the Daily Moisturiser from the Purifying Range. It’s super hydrating but doesn’t leave any oiliness at all, so sits great underneath make up as well. Another favourite that I’ve only just started but already know I’m going to love is the Pro Range Brightening Serum. I’ve noticed some dark spot and pigmentation on my skin this past year and this serum is targeted just for that so I’m excited to see the results from consistent use.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my personal skin journey. I really hope it can be somewhat helpful if you’re struggling with any similar issues, I know how frustrating problematic skin can be!
