Stacking Serums

Stacking Serums

Stacking Serums!

We take skincare seriously, it’s our day to day, so without sounding too sassy - we kinda know a thing or two about it. But we are aware that skincare doesn’t come naturally to others and it can be quite confusing at times. What is layered with what, how many times to apply this and that, and at what time of the day. If you’ve ever thought “how do I use this?”, then this is your cue to read on.

Serums are an important part of any beauty routine, they include powerful and active skincare ingredients that get the job done, fast. Use a serum religiously and you’ll reap the benefits. Serums can be stacked, layered and used together - in what order is very relevant. This will increase their effectiveness and decrease the time it takes to see results. Build on them and they will reward you. Although layering serums is highly recommended, there are some ingredients that don’t dance too well together, so you’ll need to be across this and plan your serum application accordingly.

Here are a few combinations of ingredients that work well when applied together, plus the Cosmology Skincare products that feature these ingredients. We’ve made it nice and easy for you, keeping it simple keeps it cute.

Hyaluronic Acid & Retinal:

Hyaluronic Acid is a crowd favourite at Cosmology Skincare. HA increases the moisture content of the skin with its’ unique ability to retain water, this boost in hydration reduces fine lines and accelerates wound healing. It’s an absolute queen at improving the skin’s elasticity and texture. Benefits of using Hyaluronic Acid can be seen in as little as 2-4 weeks.

When it comes to Retinal, we’re borderline stalkerish…because we love it so much. It’s savage in the fight against premature ageing as it’s a very potent form of Vitamin A. It fights free radical damage, reduces fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation, and improves the tone and texture of the skin. A few of our products contain Retinal, which is fabulous as it’s able to be layered with Hyaluronic Acid. These two ingredients play well together. Pop your Hyaluronic Acid on first, followed by your Retinal.

Vitamin C & Hyaluronic Acid:

You know the drill with Hyaluronic Acid so we’ll dive straight into the benefits of Vitamin C. If you are battling with tone and texture of the skin, or concerned with discolouration, this is your ingredient. One of the biggest benefits is protection against sun damage. Vitamin C has been proven to delay melanin production, as it reduces the activity of an enzyme called tyrosinase, going on to fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Regular use of this vitamin will leave you with a brighter complexion and more even skin tone. Another perk of this ingredient? An increased production in collagen due to a process called Collagen Synthesis, which cannot occur without Vitamin C.

Retinal (Vitamin A) and Niacinamide:

Refer to the first serum combination on this page to find information on Retinal! Like we said, we’re pretty needy when it comes to Retinal, because we simply cannot get enough of it. It will happily layer with other serums so should be a staple in your skincare routine.

Niacinamide is a non-negotiable when it comes to what serums you should be using on a daily basis. Niacinamide helps to build keratin, the protein that helps to keep our skin firm and healthy - have we got your attention yet? It also helps to retain moisture, reduce inflammation, reduce pore size and acne. This magic ingredient will protect your skin against environmental stresses like UV rays, pollution and external toxins. Niacinamide also assists in the regulation of oil that is produced by the sebaceous glands - preventing your skin from overproducing oil and causing break outs.
